So when the Canadian singer-songwriter released the fourth studio album, ‘Goodbye Lullaby’, I wasn’t entirely enthusiastic. I’m not particularly keen with the previous best-selling tracks such as ‘Complicated’, ‘Don’t Tell Me’ and ‘Girlfriend’. My only favourite song from Lavigne would be ‘When You’re Gone’. This long-awaited album that took two whole years to complete the production contained 14 tracks. The same producer of Spears ‘Femme Fatale’, Max Martin once again produced some of the songs in this album. Among some of the tracks worth listening are ‘What the Hell’, ‘Black Star’, ‘Wish you were here’, ‘Smile’, and ‘Alice’. Most of the songs in the album were produced with strip down instruments – piano and guitar.

Well, believe it or not, every song on the album was written by Lavigne. So don’t be surprised to find most of the songs with ‘la-la-las’ or ‘yeah-yeah-yeah’. I find it annoying so I’m not really into the album. But something’s different in this album. Unlike the usual catchy and cheeky tunes with quirky lyrics, ‘Goodbye Lullaby’ contained a couple of ballad track types. The lead single ‘What the Hell’ generally received positive comments from music critics but some lambasted the song for its similarity with ‘Girlfriend’. Categorized as a fast pop punk, pop rock and pop song, I never really like ‘What the Hell’ from the very beginning when I first heard it on the radio.

Perhaps, it is because of the quirky lyrics but mostly because of the tune. Most of the tracks are similar in one way or another. This lead single still reminds me of the same young “sk8er girl” punk from her first album. But if you’re a fan of pop rock song or Lavigne’s loyal fan, then perhaps you’ll appreciate ‘Goodbye Lullaby’. So get a copy of the CD-DVD combo and judge for yourself.

The long-awaited seventh album, Femme Fatale contained some catchy tunes. Produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke, the lead single from the album, ‘Hold It Against Me’ peaked the charts in eight countries and that included United States and Canada. Whenever the song is played on radio, I can’t help but humming along awkwardly. Though things weren’t looking good for Spears in the last few years with her erratic behavior and negative headlines, it seems that Spears had pulled together with a great album this time around.

One of the best-selling artistes in the history of contemporary music, this is by far one of her best albums. I wasn’t enthusiastic or excited with her previous fifth and sixth albums. This time around, when I first heard the lead single on the radio, I thought the track is just simply awesome. This album was well-received by music critics. Well, back to the album, one can expect Femme Fatale similar to any other electronic genre that will get you up on the dance floor. If you were once Spears fan, you can expect a great album and it’s definitely worth the money you paid.

Her second single in the album, ‘Till the World Ends’ is equally good. Other catchy tunes and awesome tracks are ‘Gasoline’, ‘Don’t Keep Me Waiting’, ‘Criminal’, and ‘Seal it with a Kiss’. The songs supply high-energy grooves complimented by memorable lyrics will keep you listening to it again and again. Spears collaborated with two prominent artistes in this album – ‘(Drop Dead) Beautiful’ with Sabi and ‘Big Fat Bass’ with Will.i.am. Those who like high-grooves tracks will fall in love with the album but unfortunately, this is not the case for those who prefer soothing love ballad.

Let me say right out loud here – I’m a big fan of David Foster ever since I heard ‘look what you’ve done to me’ by Boz Scaggs. David Foster remained one of the biggest names in the industry for his songs such as ‘Through the Fire’, ‘Home’, ‘I Swear’ and the unforgettable ‘The Prayer’. Whatever you think about these songs, it remain as some of my favourites to these days. So here’s another collection from David Foster & Friends ‘Hitman Returns’ by Warner Music. The CD-DVD combo features songs from well-known and powerful singers such as Charice, Kenny Loggins, All-4-One, Donna Summer and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Well, if you are looking forward for Foster’s appearance in the combo, check out the song ‘Winter Games’ performed with Brian Boitano and Kristi Yamaguchi. Songs produced by Foster have the power to melt my heart. Somehow, I’ll listen to one single song repeatedly. The sweet and soothing ballad together with powerful voices puts all my pressure to stop. Yes, the album can heal my wounds. Though this new album is still more of the same with the previous David Foster & Friends Hitman concert. But the strikingly melodic songs will makes you wonder whatever happens to the music industry these days. Filled with gorgeous songs, there is without doubt the album is just lovely. And if you haven’t got yourself Foster’s album, grab it now because I’m pretty sure it will become a personal favourite of yours.
